Why are you Thankful?

Thanksgiving is fast approaching!  Do you have any special traditions?

In my home, we have the expected turkey dinner with all the fixings and crafts centered around pumpkins and making handprint turkeys which can be seen in many homes throughout the United States at this time of the year.

We started a tradition when my son was three where we write out what we are thankful for before we sit down to dinner.  In order to keep these thoughts of gratitude, I created a tree out of foam and painted it to look like bark.  Instead of writing our thought of thanks on paper, we write them on foam leaves and then glue the leaves on to the tree.  Every leaf is signed by the person who wrote it, and the date is included.  It is amazing to look back at the tree and see how your kids grow and how what they are thankful for changes each year.  For example, my son began by putting things like his toys on the leaves and last year at the age of ten he wrote that he was thankful for his teacher and for being able to help serve other’s that do not have as much as he does.  Teaching kids at a young age to be thankful can have a very powerful impact on their lives.

If you create a tree of thanks, please share it below!
