In honor of the start of fall, we are having a family movie night filled with fun activities, foods, and of course a great movie!
The plan is to watch a wonderful classic, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”. Both my husband and I have memories of watching this movie with our own families when we were kids and now have passed that tradition on to our kids.
Here is the plan for the night:
Activities –
- Tissue Paper Pumpkins – This is a great activity for the young kids. They can each make their own jack-o-lantern that will not spoil before Halloween arrives.
- Glass Jar Luminaries – If you make these early enough in the day to dry you can use them to add some ambiance to the evening. In order to reduce the risk of fire, use electric tea lights that can be purchased in any craft store.
- Watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”
Food –
- Beef Stew – My favorite beef stew recipe comes from Better Homes and Gardens and can be found at the following link: http://www.bhg.com/recipe/stews/old-fashioned-beef-stew/
- Cheddar Cheese and Garlic Biscuits – Make your favorite drop biscuit recipe and add to it a cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Before baking the biscuits, brush the tops with a mixture of melted butter and garlic.
- Fall Leaf Cookies – Make sugar cookies early in the day and use leaf shaped cookie cutters to form the “leaves”. After the cookies have been cooled, everyone can decorate their own cookie with frosting and different colored decorator sugars.
